The Wit and Wisdom of Winston Churchill
I am a big student of history. Just about any time of the week you can find me reading a book about history. One of my favorite historical characters is Winston Churchill. I personally believe he was one of the greatest men of the 20th century. His wit, humor, and wisdom, is legendary. Here are a few of my favorite examples.
Quotes:
“Eating words has never given me indigestion.”
“Personally, I am always willing to learn, although I do not always like what is being taught.”
“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.”
Conversation between Lady Nancy Aston and Churchill:
Aston: “Winston, if you were my husband I would put arsenic in your morning coffee
Churchill: “Madam, if you were my wife, I’d drink it.
Conversation between Bessie Braddock and Churchill:
Braddock: “Winston you are Drunk!”
Churchill: “And Madam you are ugly, and tomorrow, I’ll be sober, and you will still be ugly.”
Churchill to Adolf Hitler:
“We will have no truce or parley with you, or the grisly gang who do your wicked will. You do your worst- and we will do our best.”
On the Soviet Union:
“I can’t forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.”
“Democracy is the worst system devised by the wit of man except for all the others.”
On Socialism:
“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”
“It is the socialist idea that making profits is a vice; I consider the real vice is making losses.”
“Socialism is Government of the duds, by the duds, and for the duds.”
On Prime Minister Clement Attlee:
“He is a sheep in sheep’s clothing.”
“Mr. Atlee is a very modest man, but then he has much to be modest about.”
That is the wit and wisdom of a great leader, hope you enjoyed them.
