Yesterday, (3/18), I was watching the news when they showed a clip of some congressman grilling the head of AIG. I watched in amusement as each of the panelists voiced their outrage over the bonuses paid to AIG executives. It made good television, but it was about as honest as professional wresting, (although I don’t mean to insult wrestlers by comparing them to congressmen). These same men who were professing their anger, knew about these bonuses one week after the Presidential election. They knew about them and approved them.
I am not an expert on the economy, and I make no effort to try and tell anyone what to do. However, one thing I do know. Too many of our elected officials in Washington are nothing more than “Posers”, they look good, they sound good, but they are nothing more than two bit hucksters playing their fiddles while Rome burns. The nation wanted change and we are getting exactly what the Democrats are known for, bigger government, higher taxes, and less representation.
I don’t know about you, but everyday that goes by I grow more disgusted with Barney Frank, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Chris Dodd, Charley Rangel, and others of the same ilk. These people prove everyday that the insane are running the asylum. Of course the Republicans of the last administration were no better. They squandered the trust of the America people with their “fat cat” ways, as the election proved.
So what is a person to do? As a Christian we must go to the Bible for direction. In II Kings 4:8-11, there is a story that most people overlook regarding Elisha. The scripture says that there was a woman who seeing Elisha pass said, “I perceive this is a Holy man of God which passeth us by continually”. She then added a room to her house, and put within a bed, a table, and a candlestick, for the prophet to use. The lesson here is simple; by doing this for Elisha she was saying, “I am making room for the work of God”.
If, in these times of economic insanity, we make room for the work of God, the Lord will make room for us. If we will treasure the work of God, I believe the Lord will see us through.
This is the musing and ramblings of one whose hope is in the Lord and not in Washington!
