The Testimony That Pleases God

November 2025

“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

—Hebrews 11:5-6

The story of Enoch is one of the most interesting stories found in the Bible. Actually, his story should be read and understood by all believers. Scripture tells us that from creation to the flood, which was about 1,600 years, only three men are recorded in the Word of God as having lived for God, and they were Abel, Enoch, and Noah. It is interesting to note that some believers often complain about how hard it is to live for God but just imagine only three believers being found in 1,600 years. No church. No temple. No services. No fellowship with other believers. When you take these things intoconsideration, I think you’ll have to admit that it’s much easier to live for God today.

To understand Enoch’s life, we must begin in Genesis 5:21-24. Regarding his life, it’s important to note that Enoch was the seventh from Adam. As we look at the first six, the Word of God concludes their lives with the cold words, “And they died.” But concerning Enoch, the Bible says, “God took him,” meaning that he was translated by God to heaven, a picture of the coming rapture of the church. Enoch is in heaven today, one of only two men in heaven who have not yet died, the other being Elijah, and they are awaiting the time of the fulfillment of their ministry, which we will discuss later in this article.

There are three specific statements made in God’s Word concerning Enoch. Let’s examine each one.

ENOCH WALKED WITH GOD

Genesis 5:22 tells us this. Now what did that mean, “Enoch walked with God”? In the Bible, the word walk is often used to describe our daily living for God. It means having knowledge of God’s character and understanding of how relationship between God and man is based. It means that Enoch knew and understood that there could be no relationship outside of the sacrifice and what that represented, i.e., the sacrificial atoning death of Christ on the cross in order to pay the debt of sin that man owed to God. He understood there was one to come to satisfy God’s just demands.

ENOCH WITNESSED FOR GOD

The second statement about Enoch is found in Jude 1:14, “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his saints.”  His prophecy was twofold. The first concerns speaking against false teachers, which Jude is speaking of; and second, he prophesies of the second coming of Jesus Christ. So, we see here that just 600 years after Adam, God raises up Enoch as a prophet to proclaim this great future event. To be a proper witness—actually, to be a true prophet of the Lord—one must also have correct doctrine. There are many voices in the church today claiming to be prophets, but if the doctrine they proclaim is not 100 percentbiblical, then they are false prophets and must be dismissed and not tolerated.

ENOCH PLEASED GOD

The third thing said about Enoch was that he pleased God. Hebrews 11:5 says, “For before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”  For 300 years Enoch walked with God, which means that he kept the faith despite all the wickedness around him. It appears that he spent his life publicly reproving a sinful generation and warning them of the approaching judgment (Jude 1:14-15). So, what was the testimony that pleased God? The answer is found in Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him…and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

His testimony was faith in God, but it was more than just faith in general. His faith was in what the sacrifices represented. As Enoch prophesied of the second coming of Christ means that the Lord had informed him of the first advent of Christ, which would have included the cross. The Lord had shown him “with ten thousands of his saints,” and there could be no saints without the cross.

As well, in Hebrews 11:4 Abel is mentioned immediately preceding Enoch with this statement: “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.” Abel’s “more excellent sacrifice” spoke to Enoch as it has spoken to untold millions ever since. So Enoch believed correctly. He believed “He is,” which means the answer to every problem is, “He is.” To Moses, He was “I am”; to us, “He is.” He is a “Rewarder.” Believe that God will do great things for His children. He is a rewarder to them that “diligently seek Him.” This means that we don’t give up.

Enoch walked with God, Enoch witnessed for God, and Enoch pleased God—what a testimony.

As well, we must understand that Enoch is in heaven in his natural state, along with Elijah, waiting for the fulfillment of their ministries as the two witnesses of Revelation11.

Revelation 11:3-12 gives us the account of the two witnesses. They will stand in Jerusalem and prophesy for the last three and a half years of the great tribulation. They will be supernaturally empowered to speak continuously the entire time. If anyone tries to stop them or kill them, Scripture says that they in turn will be killed. Then, at the end of the three and a half years, they will go silent, having finished their work. And then this same passage in Revelation 11 says that they shall be killed, with their bodies lying in the street for three and a half days, but then they will be raised from the dead, ascending up to heaven.

What an extraordinary life and ministry.
